On April 23, 2010, the EAI held a meeting with representatives from the Army Directed Studies Office (ADSO) of the United States Department of Defense on the major issues facing South Korea and the East Asia region.

  EAI Asia Security Initiative Updates
EAI Asia Security Initiative Working Paper No. 4
The latest working paper by Byung-Yeon Kim is available now on the EAI website. This working paper entitled "Markets, Bribery, and Regime Stability in North Korea" looks at the nature and extent of bribery in the DPRK. Using data from North Korean refugees, this paper presents a number of policy implications regarding the stability of the regime.

MacArthur Foundation Asia Security Initiative 2010 Annual Meeting
The East Asia Institute will be hosting the MacArthur Asia Security Initiative 2010 Annual Meeting at Westin Chosun Hotel, Seoul, South Korea, from July 7-9 2010. This will be the second annual meeting held since the Inaugural MacArthur Grantees' Meeting and Official Launch of the MacArthur Asia Security Initiative hosted by the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore last year.

EAI Governance Studies Working Paper No. 2
The latest working paper in the EAI governance series is available by Kon-Su Yi, senior research fellow at the EAI. His paper, entitled "Economy President?: Exploring Determinants of Presidential Approval of Myung-bak Lee," examines economic and non-economic variables that influence presidential approval ratings by applying a political-economic model.

2010 EAI Global Academy
The EAI will hold its fifth annual EAI Global Academy with support from Henry Luce Foundation of the United States and Chiang Kai-Shek Foundation of Taiwan. This year, the 2010 EAI Global Academy will feature the following EAI Fellows: Barbara Booth Stallings, Etel Liliana Solingen, Susan Hayes Whiting, and Mary Alice Haddad.

2010 EPIK Young Leaders Conference
The EAI invites undergraduate and graduate students to participate in an essay competition in the 2010 EPIK Young Leaders Conference, which will be held on August 17, 2010. This is an annual academic conference organized by EPIK Spiders, an academic circle created by EAI intern graduates. The essay topic for this year is "Building a Community".
