  EAI Asia Security Initiative Working Paper No. 6
The latest working paper by Hyung-Min Joo (Korea University) is available now on the EAI website. This working paper entitled "Democratic Inconsistency in the North Korean Nuclear Crisis" raises the question of consistency within U.S. policy toward North Korea during the Clinton and Bush administrations. This working paper offers a number of policy recommendations on how Washington can approach Pyongyang and work to resolve the nuclear crisis.

  EAI Asia Security Initiative Updates
The 7th Smart Talk Seminar with Dr. Igor Khripunov
On June 1, 2010 the EAI held its 7th Smart Talk with Dr. Igor Khripunov, Director of the University of Georgia Center for International Trade and Security, who gave a presentation on the recent Nuclear Security Summit in Washington D.C. Together with leading international scholars, Dr. Khripunov discussed in length the challenges and difficulties facing the next nuclear summit scheduled to be held in Seoul, 2012.

MacArthur Foundation Asia Security Initiative 2010 Annual Meeting
The EAI will be hosting the MacArthur Asia Security Initiative 2010 Annual Meeting at Westin Chosun Hotel, Seoul, South Korea, from July 7-9 2010. This will be the second annual meeting held since the Inaugural MacArthur Grantees' Meeting and Official Launch of the MacArthur Asia Security Initiative hosted by the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore last year.

EAI Commentary No.6 "Lessons from the Cheonan Incident and South Korea's Response"
The EAI has released a commentary on "Lessons from the Cheonan Incident and South Korea's Response." This timely commentary looks at the implications of North Korea's sinking of the South Korean navy corvette Cheonan and the policy options for South Korea in its response.

The Center for Values and Ethics Roundtable: Empire and Social movements
The EAI's Center for Values and Ethics held a roundtable with Professor Carl E. Broggs of the National University in Los Angeles. With the title of "Empire and Social Movements," the roundtable focused on the issues of social movements developing into political forces within the highly-institutionalized state-capitalist system.

2010 EAI Global Academy
The EAI will hold its fifth annual EAI Global Academy with support from Henry Luce Foundation of the United States and Chiang Kai-Shek Foundation of Taiwan. This year, the 2010 EAI Global Academy will feature the following EAI Fellows: Barbara Booth Stallings, Etel Liliana Solingen, Susan Hayes Whiting, and Mary Alice Haddad.

2010 EPIK Young Leaders Conference
The EAI invites undergraduate and graduate students to participate in an essay competition in the 2010 EPIK Young Leaders Conference, which will be held on August 17, 2010. This is an annual academic conference organized by EPIK Spiders, an academic circle created by EAI intern graduates. The essay topic for this year is "Building a Community".
