  EAI Commentary No.24
The challenges facing North Korea following the death of Kim Jong-il in December 2011 are immense and complex. If Kim Jong-un proceeds along the same path as his father's military-first politics then he will face a dilemma that will eventually threaten the stability of the regime in the mid-term. This EAI Security Net commentary highlights the unique role that South Korea can play in proposing a strategy of coevolution to guide North Korea along a staged approach toward becoming a "normal" country. In this regard, South Korea must also lead the international community to coevolve along with North Korea in reshaping the Korean Peninsula and the wider region.
