  Conference on "Future of North Korea 2032"
With recent new developments in North Korea's leadership succession, there is now great focus on the country's potential new leaders. Examining the future direction of North Korea, the EAI will be holding a conference on November 4, 2010 to coincide with the release of a report by the Future of North Korea Panel. Drawing upon a panel of experts from different fields, this report looks at North Korea's future direction in economy, politics, military, human rights, and diplomacy.   EAI Asia Security Initiative Updates
EAI GlobalNet 21 on G20
The upcoming G20 Summit in Seoul has brought attention to South Korea's role within this international forum. With the original mandate to lead the recovery from the Global Financial Crisis, the G20 now looks toward becoming a steering committee for the global economy. This GlobalNet 21 Forum will look into the G20 and South Korea's key role as it hosts this crucial summit. The GlobalNet 21 Forum will held on October 7, 2010, bringing together the EAI's experts on the G20 to discuss on the topic of "G20 in the Context of Global Governance."

Smart Talk 9: Regionalism in the 21st Century Asia
Under the title of "Regionalism in the 21st Century Asia," the EAI held its 9th Smart Talk with Dr. Muthiah Alagappa, Distinguished Senior Fellow at the East-West Center. With the rise of new global institutions such as the G20, the relevance of regional institutions becomes more profound. Along with this comes increased attention towards regionalism in East Asia. Dr. Alaggapa focused on the nexus between regional and global approaches to the major challenges of the 21st Century. Multimedia and Summary of the Smart Talk is available.

Working Paper on FTA Networks in East Asia
Economic integration has been at the forefront of regionalism in East Asia and has led to more formalized institutions. Looking to assess the growing network of FTAs among countries in East Asia, Lee Seungjoo's working paper "Creating a Region: The Evolution of Free Trade Agreement Networks in East Asia" highlights the growing trends and underlying causes toward forming FTA networks. This paper comes up with implications on how these networks will shape the region.

EPIK Conference Papers
All papers presented at the EPIK Young Leaders Conference are now available on the EAI website. The papers focused on different aspects of "Building a Community." Seven papers were presented at the conference in the categories of Politics of Community Building, Economics of Community Building, International Community Building: East Asia Community, and Comparative Community Building: The Two Koreas.
Application for the EAI Fellows Program 2010-2011 Open
The EAI invites applications for its 2010-2011 Fellows Program on Peace, Governance, and Development in East Asia. Funded by the Japan Foundation, the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange of Taiwan, and YBM/KIS, an education institute of Korea, the Fellows Program is targeting East Asia specialists. The deadline for applications is November 30, 2010.
