  EPIK Young Leaders Conference 2010
The EAI held its first EPIK Young Leaders Conference on August 17, 2010. This conference was an essay-writing competition that brought together six selected students from different academic backgrounds. Under the title of "Building a Community," conference participants presented their papers on a range of political, economic, and social issues related to community building. Conference details can be found on the EAI website.

  EAI Asia Security Initiative Updates
Summary of MacArthur Foundation Asia Security Initiative 2010 Annual Meeting
The full summary of the MASI Annual Meeting 2010 is now available along with complete transcripts of all sessions and main speeches. This summary includes all the major policy recommendations from the conference focused on the two topics of "Post-Crisis Global and Regional Order" and "East Asian Community."

EAI Commentary on Dokdo Issue
August 22, 2010 marked the 100th anniversary of Japan's annexation of Korea, yet major disputes between the two countries remain. The question of sovereignty over the islets of Dokdo remains as one of these bitterly contested issues. In this commentary, Youngshik D. Bong, looks at the history of the Dokdo issue and recommends the South Korean government to take a more pragmatic approach.

Smart Talk with John S. Park
In light of the recent growing rivalry between China and the United States, the EAI held Smart Talk 8 on August 6, 2010 with Dr John S. Park of United States Institute of Peace. Dr Park gave a presentation on China's evolving relationship with North Korea and the implications this has for South Korea and the United States.

Future of North Korea Working Paper Series
The Future of North Korea Panel has released its working paper series in Korean. This series includes five papers which look at North Korean issues ranging from the future of military-first politics to human rights. English abstracts are available.

EAI Intern Homecoming Day
The EAI held its second annual Intern Homecoming Day event on August 16, 2010, bringing together former and current interns. With presentation from President Sook Jong Lee, MASI Chair Chaesung Chun and Professor Young-sun Ha (Seoul National University) and Byung-Kook Kim (President, Korea Foundation), this event gave an opportunity to develop a network among the interns of the EAI.
Application for the EAI Fellows Program 2010-2011 Open
The EAI invites applications for its 2010-2011 Fellows Program on Peace, Governance, and Development in East Asia. Funded by the Japan Foundation, the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange of Taiwan, and YBM/KIS, an education institute of Korea, the Fellows Program is targeting East Asia specialists. The deadline for applications is November 30, 2010.
Journal of East Asia Studies "A" Category Ranking
The Journal of East Asia Studies has been classified in the "A" category of research journals worldwide by the Australian Government's Australian Research Council. As part of the Excellence in Research for Australia initiative, the ARC released its Ranked Journal list using a single quality rating of A*, A, B or C. International Conference for the Dedication of the Pacific Rim Park on Jeju
On August 6, 2010, the EAI participated in the International Conference for the Dedication of the Pacific Rim Park on Jeju. This international conference held by the University of California, San Diego and the East Asia Foundation brought together a number of experts and specialists from China, Japan, South Korean, and the United States. For the conference, participants reflected upon the major issues facing regional security in East Asia.
