[CSO Interview Series] ③ "Key Words to Support Myanmar’s Democratization: #Surveillance #Alternative #Participation #Solidarity”

EAI`s project planned the interview series "Revisiting Burma," that listen to the stories of civil society activists in South Korea who have supported Myanmar`s Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) for the past year. Eun-kyung Cheon, a senior coordinator at People’s Solidarity of Participatory Democracy (PSPD), said "Without the days of Gwangju, we would have still paid attention to the days of Myanmar these days," stressing the importance of democracy and human rights cooperation as the background of supporting Myanmar`s democratization. During the conversation, she reflected on the previous year, when PSPD protested against Korean corporations that had conspired with Myanmar`s military prior to the coup and held online sympathy campaigns. `As a CSO, we need to keep raising our voices, even if what we try to do is small,` she said.   ■ Eunkyung Cheon_A senior coordinator of People`s Solidarity of Participatory Democracy (PSPD). She is working as a member of the executive committee at the Korean Civil Society in Support of Democracy in Myanmar(106 CSOs). [CSOs Interview Series] ① “Military Coup 1 year +, Time to Prepare for Myanmar’s Sustainable Democracy”

EAI's project planned the interview series "Revisiting Burma," that listen to the stories of civil society activists in South Korea who have supported Myanmar's Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) for the past year. One of the Youth Action for Myanmar (YAM)'s leaders, Wai Nwe Hnin Soe, points out that supporting Myanmar's democratization movement should not be limited to one-dimensional and short-term methods such as fundraising campaigns or participation in SNS certification shot campaigns. The interviewee emphasized the importance of developing programs that will be helpful when preparing for a sustainable democracy of Myanmar: such as, developing psychotherapy and educational programs for the grassroots movement leaders or keeping a solidarity journal by collecting materials related to the one-year-long CDM.   ■ Wai Nwe Hnin Soe_ One of the leaders of the Youth Action for Myanmar (YAM). She graduated from Mandalay University of Foreign Studies in Korean Language and obtained a master's degree and doctorate in Korean Language and Literature from Yonsei University Graduate School.
