  EAI Welcomes New Chairman
On May 31, 2012, the EAI held the inauguration of its new Chairman Young-Sun Ha. At this event, Former Chairman Hong-Koo Lee gave his farewell speech before Chairman Young-Sun Ha's inauguration speech. This event was also part of celebrations for the tenth anniversary of the EAI.

Smart Talk with Robert Kagan
The EAI invited Dr. Robert Kagan, Brookings Institution, for its Smart Talk forum on Tuesday May 22, 2012. Dr. Kagan outlined his thoughts on the main challenges in East Asia confronting the United States.

Future of North Korea Book Published
The EAI has published Future of North Korea 2032: Coevolutionary Strategy for the Advancement. This book outlines the concept of coevolution as a new strategy to shape and transform North Korea.

On June 14, 2012, the EAI held a Smart Talk with Dr. Mark E. Manyin of the Congressional Research Service. The topic for this forum was "A South Korean-Japanese Strategic Partnership: An Emerging Reality, or an American Fantasy?"

In this Issue Briefing, Chang-Hyun Chung looks at how the power structure is emerging in North Korea as Kim Jong-un establishes his power base. The author expects that the Kim Jong-un regime will begin to place new priorities on rebuilding the economy.

In this paper, EAI Fellow Professor Hyon Joo Yoo of Trinity University examines the domestic difficulties in cooperation between different alliance partners.

Applications for the EAI Fellows Program 2012-13 are now open. This program offers selected fellows the opportunity to present seminars and lectures, based on an unpublished article on current regional issues at two or more partner institutions in East Asia.
