  EAI Commentary No.21
The launch of China's aircraft carrier on August 10, 2011, highlights its growing naval capabilities as well as concerns among its neighbors about its intentions toward maritime disputes in the region. At the same time, Beijing displayed a more conciliatory stance at the recent ASEAN Regional Forum meeting in July 2011 over the disputes in the South China Sea. In this EAI Commentary, Min Gyo Koo examines the maritime disputes in East Asia and proposes measures which could help to ease tensions among involved countries.
