 Global Net 21 with Ambassador Robert Joseph
On March 28, 2011, the EAI held its Global Net 21 forum with Ambassador Robert Joseph, former Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security under the Bush administration. In 2003, Ambassador Joseph was instrumental in negotiating with Libya to give up its nuclear program. Drawing upon his experience, this forum focused on North Korea and the nuclear non-proliferation regime. Together with leading South Korean scholars, Ambassador Joseph discussed the complex issues of denuclearizing North Korea. Video highlights and a summary of the forum are available.

  EAI Asia Security Initiative Updates
EAI Issue Briefing on South Korea in the Chinese Political Imagination
Utilizing the EAI's survey data, this issue briefing by Sook-Jong Lee analyzes the different perceptions held by Chinese ordinary citizens and elites on South Korea. This issue briefing shows that in general, Chinese view their national interests are in line with South Korea both regionally and internationally. However, challenges remain in developing security cooperation as well as overcoming their differences on North Korea.

InfraVision with Former Vice Foreign Minister Kak-Soo Shin
Former South Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kak-Soo Shin gave a talk at the EAI's InfraVision forum to South Korean scholars and experts. The topic was on South Korea's future foreign policy and its role as a middle power. Some of the main issues covered were U.S.-China relations, the North Korean nuclear crisis, and unification on the Korean Peninsula.

Smart Q&A with Professor Ezra F. Vogel
To coincide with the release of the book The Park Chung Hee Era: The Transformation of South Korea, Professor Ezra F. Vogel talked to the EAI briefly about putting the book together. He also explained about what influences this book might have for future generations of leaders in South Korea.

New Issue of Journal of East Asian Studies
The new issue of the Journal of East Asian Studies is available. This issue includes articles on the impact of democracy on corruption in Korea, an analysis of Hyundai Motors transfer of production systems to the United States, Asian financial cooperation in the 1990s, and a review essay on the study of China in comparative politics. Also included in this issue is an exchange on Taiwanese domestic politics and relations with China.
Issue Briefing on Global Public Opinion
The EAI conducted a public opinion survey in South Korea as part of the GlobeScan/PIPA Global Poll 2011. This international survey for the BBC World Service was carried out across 27 countries among 28,000 respondents. Based on the results from this survey, the EAI published an Issue Briefing exploring the responses in South Korea on the perceptions of other countries. In general, South Koreans have become in 2010 more favorable toward the United States (46% to 53%) and less so to China (57% to 36%). The original report in Korean is available on the website.
