  ROK-US Alliance Conference
In the aftermath of North Korea's recent provocations, attention naturally focuses on the ROK-U.S. alliance and how it will cope with future changes on the Korean Peninsula, in the region, and the world. The EAI together with the Center for a New American Security(CNAS) will be holding a timely conference on the ROK-U.S. alliance under the title of "ROK-U.S. Alliance: Planning for the Future." With the support of Pyeongtaek City, this annual conference has been running since 2008 and this year will feature a number of prominent experts from South Korea and the United States. This event will take place on December 15, 2010 at the Hotel Shilla.

  EAI Asia Security Initiative Updates
Northeast Asia Security Dialogue 2010
The 2010 Northeast Asia Security Dialogue was held on November 21-22 at Peking University between the EAI and Peking University's Center for International and Strategic Studies. As in past years, the dialogue consisted of two meetings between experts and students from South Korea and China.

Commentary on the G20 Seoul Summit
The recent G20 summit in Seoul marked a major achievement for South Korea in hosting such a major event, but many questions were raised on the future of this institutional framework amid major disputes. This EAI Commentary focuses on how the G20 will feature in future global governance and the way in which South Korea should harness it soft power and network power for more effective diplomacy.

Post-2012 U.S. Leadership and U.S. Policy toward East Asia
Following the negative results for President Obama in the mid-term elections, he set out for his Asia trip where he has seen successes and difficulties. Byoung Kwon Sohn's Issue Briefing looks at the future prospects for U.S. leadership and the effects that this will have on its policy toward East Asia.

Smart Talk 13 with Mr. Strobe Talbott and Dr. Richard Bush
Looking at Obama's foreign policy and the new Congress in the United States, the Brookings Institution's President Strobe Talbott and Senior Research Fellow Richard Bush discussed these issues with scholars and experts on December 1, 2010. Mr. Talbott and Dr. Bush explained how the polarization of politics in Washington is having an affect on its international commitments and leadership in the world.

Smart Talk 12 with Yves Tiberghien
Focusing on the geopolitical trends within the G20, Yves Tiberghien gave a talk at the EAI's Smart Talk with South Korean experts on November 16, 2010. Professor Tiberghien outlined the search for global governance and the complex power relations within the G20.

Smart Talk 11 with Dr. Marshall Bouton
Following the release of the Chicago Council for Global Affairs Global Views 2010 survey on the opinions of Americans toward foreign affairs, the EAI invited Marshall Bouton (President of CCGA) to discuss its findings. The results of the survey show that Americans are not yet willing to embrace isolationism but favor selective engagement overseas.

Infravision on "A Basis and Direction for ROK National Defense Advancement"
Dr Tae-woo Kim, member of the Presidential Commission for Defense Reform, gave a talk for the 12th Infravision Forum on November 17, 2010. Looking ahead, he explained about the future path of national defense in South Korea.
