  MacArthur Asia Security Initiative Annual Meeting
The East Asia Institute will be hosting the MacArthur Asia Security Initiative 2010 Annual Meeting at Westin Chosun Hotel, Seoul, South Korea, from July 7-9 2010. This will be the second annual meeting held since the Inaugural MacArthur Grantees' Meeting and Official Launch of the MacArthur Asia Security Initiative hosted by the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore last year.

EAI Press Briefing on Cheonan Incident
On June 22, 2010, the EAI held a press briefing with foreign correspondents based in Seoul on the recent Cheonan incident. Professors Sukhee Han, Seongji Woo and Chaesung Chun all gave presentations and answered questions from the correspondents. A summary of the press briefing and related contents are available.

Issue Briefing on North Korea Regime Survival
The Issue Briefing by Professor Sheen Seongho is available now on "Coping with the North Korean Survival Game: The Cheonan Incident and its Aftermath." In this paper, Sheen explores how the Cheonan incident reveals much on North Korea's succession issue, regime survival, and China's role in the future on the Korean Peninsula.

New Issue of Journal of East Asian Studies
The latest issue of the Journal of East Asian Studies is out now. JEAS Volume 10, Number 2 includes a roundtable discussion on Erik Martinez Kuhota, Dan Slater, and Tuong Vu's Southeast Asia in Political Science: Theory, Region and Quantitative Analysis. There are also further articles by T.J. Pempel on East Asian regionalism, Gregory W. Noble looking at Japanese politics, Stan Hok-Wui Wong assessing political connections in Hong Kong, and So Young Kim analyzing Asian Values.

The Center for Values and Ethics Working Paper
The EAI's Center for Values and Ethics has released a working paper by Daniel Butt, Lecturer in Political Theory at University of Bristol. In this paper, Daniel Butt focuses on the issue of compensation for historic injustice. This issue of compensation has strong resonance for East Asia which is still working to resolve contest historical issues.

2010 EAI Global Academy
The EAI will hold its fifth annual EAI Global Academy with support from Henry Luce Foundation of the United States and Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation of Taiwan. This year, the 2010 EAI Global Academy will feature the following EAI Fellows: Barbara Booth Stallings, Etel Liliana Solingen, Susan Hayes Whiting, and Mary Alice Haddad.

2010 EPIK Young Leaders Conference
The EAI invites undergraduate and graduate students to participate in an essay competition in the 2010 EPIK Young Leaders Conference, which will be held on August 17, 2010. This is an annual academic conference organized by EPIK Spiders, an academic circle created by EAI intern graduates. The essay topic for this year is "Building a Community".
