Selected Scholars for EAI Fellows Program 2012-13

The East Asia Institute is pleased to announce the selection result of “Fellows Program on Peace, Governance, and Development in East Asia” for the academic year 2012-2013, with generous support from the Japan Foundation, the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange of Taiwan, and YBM/KIS, an education institute of Korea. The EAI Fellows Program brings non-Asian based East Asia specialists with cutting-edge expertise in political science, international relations, and sociology for an international exchange program with the goal of encouraging interdisciplinary research with a comparative perspective in the study of East Asia.

 

This year the Selection Committee, consisting of the representatives of the five Participating Institutions, chose five EAI Fellows. The following lists the five recipients of EAI Fellowship, with their affiliations and project titles.

 

Daniel Aldrich, Associate Professor, Purdue University

Topic: “Disaster Recovery in East Asia”

 

Myung-Koo Kang, Assistant Professor, Baruch College, City University of New York

Topic: “Developing and Regulating Financial Derivatives Markets: A Comparison of the Japanese-Korean Experiences”

 

Patrick Koellner, Director/Professor, University of Hamburg

Topic: “Selecting Party Leaders in East Asia: The Interplay of Formal and Informal Institutions”

 

Min Ye, Assistant Professor, Boston University

Topic: “The Political Economy of China’s Outbound Investment: The Role of Government-Corporate Networks”

 

Yuan-Kang Wang, Associate Professor, Western Michigan University

Topic: “Managing Hegemony in East Asia: China’s Rise in Historical Perspective”

 

Each of the EAI Fellows visits East Asia for more than two weeks to present seminars and lectures, based on an unpublished article on current issues submitted solely for the purpose of the EAI Fellows Program, at two or more of the Participating Institutions: East Asia Institute in Seoul, Fudan University in Shanghai, Keio University in Tokyo, National Taiwan University in Taipei, and Peking University in Beijing.
