Jeong Gu Park, Secretary of Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (ACRC), argues that corruption weakens public trust in government and hinders efficient operation of society. Park emphasizes that international anti-corruption cooperation is not an option anymore as corruption is a potential threat to trust-based democracy. Han Beom Yu (Co-Representative of TI-Korea) and Jin Young Jeon (Director of the Politics and Parliament team at the National Assembly Research Service) assess South Korea’s anti-corruption efforts based on CPI (Corruption Perception Index) improvement, yet find limitations in the lack of lobbying law proposals. 2. South Korea Should Play a Larger Role in the Spread of Anti-Corruption

Han Beom Yu (Co-Representative of TI-Korea), Sook Jong Lee (EAI Senior Fellow), and Won bin Cho (Professor of Sungkyunkwan University) discuss the evolving status of South Korea regarding the prevention of corruption in the international community. They urge South Korea to actively support various civil society groups working towards anti-corruption, as the improvement of the corruption index in South Korea has led to substantial efforts to root out corruption. Jeong Gu Park, a Secretary of Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (ACRC), points out the challenges to cultivating anti-corruption specialists and forming international cooperation networks due to the rotational nature of public officials’ terms. This content is an excerpt from the NDI Milestone 4-1 Roundtable Meeting held on June 27, 2023. The session was titled, "South Korea`s Role in Promoting the Spread of Anti-Corruption Values”
