The Academia Sinica/Asian Barometer has conducted this interview with Shiow-duan Haung, Professor of Political Science at Soochow University, as the fifth part of the ADRN “Sharing our Practices for Better Governance” video series. She is also the Chairwoman of Citizen Congress Watch (CCW), which is a coalition of NGOs founded in 2007 to monitor the Legislative Yuan of Taiwan. CCW made possible the IVOD recording and live broadcast of legislative meetings for public viewing via television and online. One major objective of CCW is to oversee the parliament, and the other is to promote parliamentary reform. As a result, legislators have participated more actively in committees and worked harder reviewing bills than before the live channel was set up.
