The Pursuit of Peace on the Sea: “The Prospect and Future Tasks for
the Maritime Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative” Conference

EAI, in cooperation with the Sea Lanes of Communication (SLOC) Study Group-Korea and the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), held “The Prospect and Tasks of Maritime Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative” Conference on July 24, 2015 to discuss possible ways to implement maritime aspects of the Korean government’s Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative.

Bruce Dickson of the George Washington University visited EAI on July 1, 2015 for a roundtable discussion about sources of support for the Chinese Communist Party and “local legitimacy deficit” issue within China.
Canadian Ambassador to the ROK Visits EAI
EAI held a roundtable discussion with Eric Walsh, the Canadian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, on July 20, 2015 to discuss a variety of issues including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement and ROK-Japan relations.

Bringing Korean Democracy to the World:
Program Seeks to Strengthen Burmese Civil Society Organizations’ Capability

EAI is launching an institutional capacity-building project for civil society organizations in Burma. This program strives to strengthen research and organizational capabilities of local think tanks by focusing on government budget monitoring. As a leading think tank in Korea, EAI will pass on its experience and know-how to support partner civil society organizations in Burma so they can develop into healthy and active organizations in the future.
How does the Younger Generation View ROK-U.S. Relations?
EAI hosted a Youth Focus Group allowing the EAI interns a chance to share their opinions on ROK-U.S. relations and the presence of U.S. troops on the Korean Peninsula with the Director of Strategy for the Combine Forces in Korea Bryan Port.

U.S. and China Come to the Table during the Annual Strategic & Economic Dialogue

Lately the U.S.-China relationship has been centered around the Strategic and Economic Dialogue held at the end of June, and during the dialogue, the two powers cooperated in many areas. Other areas deserving attention are the territorial disputes in the South China Sea, Japan’s right to collective self-defense, and cyber attacks.
