Finding Solutions for Korea-Japan Relations:
More Exchange Needed Between the People of Japan and Korea

The 3rd Korean-Japan Future Dialogue” was held on June 22, 2015 at Tokyo’s United Nations University and 27 experts from both Korea and Japan were in attendance. The discussion focused on understanding the mutual perceptions of the citizens of both countries and emphasized the importance of Korea-Japan relations and the need to start finding solutions rather than continuing to highlight the existing tension and negative emotions.

The East Asia Institute was pleased to host the Honorable Charles Hay, British Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, on June 16, 2015 for a discussion on a variety of issues regarding the Korean Peninsula.

Seung-Youn Oh from Bryn Mawr College was invited by EAI to give a seminar on China’s industrial policy and its relationship with the WTO. With Oh arguing that China is very skillful in navigating the WTO’s dispute resolution, discussion participants contemplated the limitations of the WTO as an institution.
From Profit Seeking to Social Contributions
Despite substantial efforts by Korean companies to improve their communities, Korean society has a deep distrust of the corporate world. This joint production from EAI and the Research Institute for Social Enterprise argues that there is a need to move beyond the traditional corporate social responsibility method and suggests a new paradigm of “creating shared value.”
April UCR Briefing: Simultaneous Cooperation and Competition
April was an active month in the U.S.-China relationship, especially with the competition over territory in the South China Sea heating up.
