[Global NK Interview] DPRK`s Foreign Policy after

US Election and ROK`s Strategy

Sung-Yoon Lee, a fellow at the Wilson Center, analyzes the potential impact of the upcoming U.S. presidential election on DPRK`s foreign policy and presents policy recommendations for the international community to address the regime`s human rights violations. Lee emphasizes that as Russia and China`s unrestrained support for North Korea emboldens Kim Jong Un, the international community must establish effective "penalty" to deter North Korean provocation. In line with this framework, Lee calls for stronger economic sanctions followed by strict enforcement and designing more binding mechanisms to hold North Korean regime accountable for its "man-made" food crisis.
