The East Asia Institute (President Yul Sohn), as a secretariat of the Asia Democracy Research Network (ADRN), invited you to the twelfth online seminar of the [Democracy Cooperation] series, titled "Gender Parity in Asia: Voices for Young Women`s Better Future." Gender equality is fundamental in achieving human rights, sustainable development, and democracy. Thanks to the decades-long legal and institutional changes, today, more girls receive better education, more women work freely with fairer pay, and more women participate in politics. Nevertheless, many girls and women are still discriminated against in accessing socio-economic opportunities, female leaders are poorly represented at decision-making tables, and femicides and other forms of violence against women are on the rise. With this in mind, this seminar examined how countries in Asia try to break glass-ceiling and empower women by discussing legal and institutional barriers for gender parity.
