[ADRN Thirteenth Workshop] Horizontal Accountability Research and Expansion of the Summit for Democracy Agenda to Support Democracy in the Indo-Pacific
Asia Democracy Research Network | Events | 2023-03-31
As part of the Asia Democracy Research Network (ADRN) program, the East Asia Institute (EAI) held the 13th Regional Workshop on March 31 to April 1, 2023 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. During this workshop, ADRN members presented the interim outcome of horizontal accountability research started in 2022, and exchanged feedback and recommendations. Participants also discussed the topics, “Expansion of the Summit for Democracy Agenda to Support Democracy in the Indo-Pacific,” “North Korean Human Rights,” and “Current State of Myanmar and Asian Solidarity for Its Democracy” during the special workshop sessions. ADRN members from 23 organizations in 14 countries attended the workshop celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the network, with the members of Asia Democracy Network, the National Endowment for Democracy, Institute for Peace and Democracy, and Carnegie Europe.
ADRN was launched in 2013 under EAI’s leadership, and has worked in order to analyze challenges against democracy in Asia and promote cooperation on pragmatic research projects contributing to promote and consolidate democracy in the region. Democracy-related research think tanks from fourteen Asian countries — Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Thailand — are participating in this network. EAI is currently serving as a secretariat of the ADRN.
