[EAI Column] Impeaching the Queen, Korean Style
"Understanding the State of the President's Impeachment"

With the impeachment hearing for President Park Geun-hye in progress, Koreans are facing drastic uncertainty. How the Constitutional Court will rule on the impeachment is shrouded in speculation. In turn, the decision by the Constitutional Court will have an impact on when the next presidential election will take place and who the next president will be. If a candidate from one of the opposition parties takes office, we may expect some serious changes to or repeals of policies that were implemented during the Park administration. Regardless of all these sources of uncertainty, there are some positive outcomes: there is a consensus among many Koreans that the Korean statism of the past century will no longer be tolerated and that such governance should be relegated to history. pc   mobile
