Myanmar now faces daunting challenges in moving toward democratization, such as continuing control of the military, unstable relations between the president and Aung San Suu Kyi, and ethnic conflicts. The Paris Agreement, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol, requires both developed and developing countries to actively respond to climate change. Given the cozy bilateral U.S.-ROK and U.S.-Japan relationships, ROK-Japan relations should be strong as well. But this has not been the case as of late as the two neighbors have struggled to overcome history issues such as the comfort women.
