  • 2012-10-24
Saenuri Party presidential candidate Park Geun-hye trails independent candidate Ahn Cheol-soo in support ratings, according to four major opinion polls on Sunday. In a two-way race, Park would also be neck-and-neck with Moon Jae-in, the candidate of the main opposition Democratic United Party, polls find.

A poll by Media Research for terrestrial network KBS on Friday and Saturday gave Ahn 49.9 percent support and Park 41.2 percent if the two were pitted only against one another. A poll by the East Asia Institute and Hankook Research showed 50.6 percent of voters supporting Ahn and 39.9 percent Park, and another by World Research for the Kukmin Ilbo had 49.9 percent for Ahn and 45.1 percent for Park.

A poll by Global Research for the Korea Economic Daily showed Ahn at 48.2 percent and Park at 44.3 percent.

In a two-way race between Park and Moon, Hankook Research polled 42 percent support for Park and 47.7 percent for Moon, well within the margin of error. A Media Research poll similarly had Park at 45 percent and Moon at 45.9 percent. World Research sees Park at 47.5 percent and Moon at 47.2 percent, while Global Research has Park ahead with 46.7 percent and Moon hard on her heels with 45.1 percent.

Hankook Research and Global Research polled 800 adults across the country, while the Media Research and World Research polled 1,000 people. That puts their margin of error slightly above 3 percent.
