The Korea Institute, through an endowment provided by POSCO, BHP and Rio Tinto, is seeking applications from suitably qualified scholars for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow for a fixed term of 2 years. As the inaugural Postdoctoral Fellow appointed by the Korea Institute, you will be expected to revise your own PhD dissertation for publication; lend support to Australia-Korea Leadership Forum; and develop and teach an undergraduate course, in your second year, focused on Korea. You may also be called up to assist the Institute's Director in liaising with other academic institutions and individuals in relation to Korean peninsula while actively pursuing your own research.

Position Information

 

Responsible To: Director, Korea Institute

 

Role Statement:

PURPOSE STATEMENT:
This position contributes to research and teaching promoted by the Korea Institute, ANU. The specific aim of this position is to support the Korea Institute's objective to develop and strengthen excellence in research on the Korean peninsula.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS:
The position is located within the Korea Institute at the College of Asia and the Pacific, the Australian National University. The Fellow will also work with other institutions engaged in research on Korea.

 

Position Dimension & Relationships:
The Fellow initially will revise his/her own PhD dissertation in preparation for publication before he/she engages in undergraduate-teaching in the second year, while also engaging in various academic and administrative facets of the Korea Institute.

 

Role Statement:
1. Complete a revision of your own PhD dissertation for publication;
2. Pursue a program of research on a designated research topic;
3. Provide support to the Australia-Korea Leadership Forum;
4. Develop and deliver an undergraduate course on Korea;
5. Assist the Institute's Director in liaising with other academic institutions and individuals.
6. Other duties as required, consistent with the classification of the position.

 

Selection Criteria:

A. Qualifications
1. PhD or equivalent on a topic central to the research interests of the Institute in the economics, security, politics and international relations of Korea. Candidates who have submitted a PhD thesis that is under examination will also be considered.

 

B. Experience
1. Demonstrated capacity to produce work of publishable quality on Korean and East Asian issues.
2. Experience in carrying out a substantial research project.
3. An indicative record of producing research papers of a high quality for an international readership.
4. Capacity and willingness to engage in collaborative research projects.
5. Relevant publications (highly desirable).
