ROK-Japan-Australia Cooperation in Trump 2.0

In light of President Donald Trump’s return to the White House, East Asia Institute (EAI) convened an international conference titled “ROK-Japan-Australia Cooperation in Trump 2.0” on January 18, 2025. The conference explored the implications of a second Trump administration for the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing trilateral cooperation to address U.S. policy shifts and uphold a rules-based order. Discussions spanned strategic and economic impacts, with experts highlighting challenges such as North Korea’s nuclear ambitions, U.S.-China decoupling, and trade vulnerabilities. They stressed middle-power collaboration, innovative strategies, and strengthened alliances to promote regional stability, green energy transition, and economic resilience, underscoring the importance of shaping a stable and prosperous future for the Indo-Pacific. [EAI-KF-API Conference] ROK-Japan Cooperation 2050: Overcoming Shared Challenges Together

With the support of the Korea Foundation, EAI and Japan`s Asia Pacific Initiative (API) hosted a conference titled "ROK-Japan Cooperation 2050: Overcoming Shared Challenges Together" on January 18, 2025. As the first Track 2 conference commemorating the 60th anniversary of ROK-Japan diplomatic normalization, the event brought together 13 experts from Korea and Japan specializing in security, economy, advanced technology, environment, and demographics. The discussions focused on identifying common challenges the two nations are likely to face by 2050. Acknowledging that today`s youth will shape society by that time, the experts proposed forward-looking solutions addressing critical issues such as nuclear weapons, artificial intelligence, climate change, population decline, and the disappearance of municipalities. These efforts aim to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for the next generation.
