Asia Democracy Research Network Ninth Workshop

  • 2019-04-03

East Asia Institute (EAI) organized and hosted the Asia Democracy Research Network (ADRN) Ninth Workshop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on April 3-4, 2019. During their joint workshop with the Asia Democracy Network (ADN), ADRN members presented their major research findings and exchanged ideas on how to strengthen cooperation between ADRN and ADN. Furthermore, ADRN held discussions on ways to translate democracy research findings into effective policy initiatives for building civil society. During the workshop, ADRN selected "the Politicization of Judicial Institutions in Asia" and "Social Media and Democracy" as research topics for the 2018-2019 project.

ADRN was launched in 2013 under EAI’s leadership in order to analyze challenges against democracy in Asia and promote cooperation on pragmatic research projects that can contribute to democracy promotion and consolidation in the region. Democracy-related research think tanks from fourteen Asian countries, including Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Thailand are participating in this network. EAI is currently serving as a secretariat of the ADRN.
