Lecture 1

East Asia Institute (EAI) and Korea Foundation co-hosted on the KF-EAI Korea Friendship event, a series of educational and networking program, for international students residing in South Korea. There are 7 consecutive lectures on Korea and 1 field trip on Korean history.

Kim Se-Yeon, a member of parliament, said that the Bareun Party is created in order to reflect on the impeachment of Park Geun-Hye and the failure of her administration. He asked participants to reflect on the lessons learned from Park Geun-Hye’s impeachment and the meaning of 29 June 1986 incident.

Since the establishment of the Republic of Korea, South Koreans have experienced wars, rapid development and democratization. In addition, the impeachment system has revealed the truth, and this made foreign media reassessed Korea’s democracy. He said that his political party is reviewing and researching on policies in line with the onset of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Also, he said that even though South Koreans have endured many hardships, they must boldly move forward in facing new changes and enhancing their democracy.
