Edwin C. Sagurton, Minister-Counselor for Political Affairs at the Embassy of the United States Seoul, visited the East Asia Institute and participated in a round-table conference with EAI President Sook-Jong Lee on Monday, January 4, 2016. This roundtable was held upon the request of the U.S. Embassy to talk about various issues ranging from the changing landscape of Northeast Asia’s diplomacy and security policies, such as the peace-building process on the Korean peninsula, to the economic integration of Northeast Asia through policies such as FTAs and the TPP. Participants also discussed the following issues in a comprehensive manner: U.S.-Korea relations and the changing landscape of Northeast Asia after the United States presidential election of 2016; and the current progress as well as future developments of Korea’s middle power diplomacy.
