Roundtable with Eric Walsh, the Canadian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea

Eric Walsh, the Canadian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, visited the East Asia Institute and participated in a round-table conference with EAI President Sook-Jong Lee on Monday, July 20, 2015. This roundtable was held upon the request of the Canadian embassy to talk about various issues surrounding the Korean Peninsula. Participants discussed the trends and prospects for the Trans-Pacific Partnership(TPP) agreement, evaluation of Korea-Japan relationship in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and prospects for the relationship after Abe’s anticipated statement on 70th anniversary of the end of WWII in August. They also held an in-depth discussion about Korea and Canada’s middle power diplomacy strategy and the direction of development in their strategic partnership. This conference confirmed the main pending issues in the Asia-pacific region and the two countries’ common interests in the situation on the Korean peninsula. It encouraged mutual understanding between the two countries as well.
