[EAI Sarangbang] The Research Trip

  • 2014-06-26

The 2014 EAI Sarangbang students recently returned from a field trip to Japan led by Chairman Young-Sun Ha which ran from June 26 to 28, as a wrap-up to the thirteen-week lecture series. With fundamental questions such as “what is the meaning behind ‘studying’?” and “what is the purpose of pursuing intellectual interests?” on their minds, the eight students enrolled in the EAI Sarangbang program visited historical sites in Japan to help satisfy this philosophical curiosity.

The EAI Sarangbang program is an educational program consisting of discussion-based lectures, extensive readings, and a field research trip, which seeks to further students' understanding of the East Asian regional architecture. Prior to this, the students spend a semester studying East Asian political order. Through this program, students seek an answer to the question of "what does it mean to pursue intellectual interests?” by getting a glimpse into the minds of the learned, who have also pondered their role as scholars within the context of the unlimited boundaries of time and space.
