[ADRN Twelfth Workshop] Direct Democracy, Minority Rights, and Transitional Justice

  • 2022-08-26

As part of the Asia Democracy Research Network (ADRN) program, the East Asia Institute (EAI) held the 12th Regional Workshop on August 26-27, 2022 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. During the workshop, ADRN members presented year-long research findings for the 2021-2022 Direct Democracy, Protection of Minority Rights and Transitional Justice research project. Participants presented their country cases and exchanged feedback and recommendations. Participants also discussed the topics, “Current status of democracy support and good governance in Korea,” and “democratic challenges facing Sri Lanka and Pakistan” during the special workshop session. ADRN members from 22 organizations in 14 Asian countries attended the event, and the members of Asia Democracy Network and the National Endowment for Democracy also participated.

ADRN was launched in 2013 under EAI’s leadership in order to analyze challenges against democracy in Asia and promote cooperation on pragmatic research projects that can contribute to democracy promotion and consolidation in the region. Democracy-related research think tanks from fourteen Asian countries, including Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Thailand are participating in this network. EAI is currently serving as a secretariat of the ADRN.
