[ADRN Online Seminar] Horizontal Accountability in Asia: Current Status and Challenges (Ⅱ)
Events | 2023-07-12
The East Asia Institute (President Yul Sohn) hosted the nineteenth online seminar of the [Democracy Cooperation] series titled “Horizontal Accountability in Asia: Current Status and Challenges”, which is a part of Asia Democracy Research Network (ADRN)’s research project.
Democracies in Asia are incorporating systеms that enable the legislature, judiciary, and inspection agencies to oversee the executive branch to prevent the concentration of power and ensure a systеm of checks and balances. However, these institutions are currently facing challenges in terms of limited authority and resources. Furthermore, the expansion of executive power in some countries causes a decline in horizontal accountability.
The online seminar analyzed the status of horizontal accountability in the region, delved into the challenges and discussed methods to strengthen the accountability of democratic governance in each country.
