On April 13, 2012, North Korea went ahead with its attempted satellite launch despite the negative impact such an action would have for resolving the nuclear crisis. In order to understand the motivations behind North Korea's decision and the policy options facing South Korea, the EAI conducted an interview with Professor Jihwan Hwang (University of Seoul). Smart Q&A with Jin Ho Jeon on One Year After Fukushima
One year after the Fukushima accident, the EAI talked with Professor Jin Ho Jeon (Kwawngwoon University) on the lessons learned in Northeast Asia. In this interview, Professor Jeon believes that the countries in the region have not advanced cooperation on nuclear safety beyond the basics and there are many areas in which cooperation can be advanced.
EAI Working Paper Series on South Korea's Foreign Policy Challenges
Working papers by Dong Sun Lee on "The Future Security Order in Asia and South Korea's Strategy" and Min Gyo Koo on "South Korea's Maritime Strategy in the 2010s" have been released. These papers are part of the EAI's National Security Panel research project on the main foreign policy challenges facing South Korea. English abstracts are available for the two papers.

EAI 10th Anniversary Celebration and Distinguished Lecture Series
2012 marks the 10th anniversary of the EAI. On May 31, the EAI will be hosting a celebration to highlight the achievements over the last ten years. Additionally, the EAI will be holding the second lecture of its Distinguished Lecture Series for its anniversary. This event will be held on May 31 and will be delivered by Prof. Uchang Kim. |
New Edition of the Journal of East Asian Studies The latest edition of the Journal of East Asian Studies has been released. This new edition includes five articles on trade agreements in Asia, Chinese netizens on the two Koreas, health policy in Thailand, energy in Japan, and presidential voting in Taiwan. |

This program offers selected fellows the opportunity to present seminars and lectures, based on an unpublished article on current regional issues at two or more partner institutions in East Asia.
