November 2011  5th ROK-U.S. Alliance Conference On October 21, 2011, the EAI held its fifth ROK-U.S. Alliance conference under the title of "A New Security Order in East Asia and the ROK-U.S. Alliance." This conference will address issues such as alliance networks and the impact of the Japan earthquake. EAI Issue Briefing on North Korea With the overthrow of Gaddafi's 40 year rule in Libya, attention turns to North Korea's regime future as it enters a delicate leadership transition period. In this issue briefing "Prospects for a People's Revolution in North Korea: Is Pyongyang Going to be the Next Tripoli?" Seongho Sheen outlines several factors which limit the possibility for an uprising in North Korea. He suggests that the international community should not expect rapid change, but rather keep a close watch for medium to long term changes in the regime. Trilateral Dialogue On November 25-26, 2011, the EAI together with National Chengchi University in Taipei and Keio University in Tokyo will hold the second trilateral dialogue in Seoul, South Korea. This successful event brings together leading think tanks in East Asia to boost linkages on research cooperation. They show that the general public supports the KORUS FTA in South Korea, but remains concerned about the rush to ratify it in the National Assembly.
