No totalitarian regime in history has survived longer than North Korea's. The problem is that succession in totalitarian regime involves a lot of anxiety, tensions, and uncertainties for the elites. There is already a sign of an emerging power struggle in Pyongyang. Whether a regime change or regime collapse, any change in North Korea will most likely start from a turn of events within Pyongyang's totalitarian regime. Whether it will be initiated by the North Korean people remains unclear. The future of the North Korean regime will have important implications for regional and global security as well as inter-Korean relations.
