동아시아연구원(EAI)은 2009-10년 EAI 펠로우즈 프로그램(EAI Fellows on Peace, Governance, and Development in East Asia)의 선정 결과를 발표합니다. 본 프로그램은 미국의 헨리루스재단(Henry Luce Foundation)과 대만의 장경국재단(Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation)의 후원으로 비 아시아권 학자들의 동아시아 연구를 활성화하고 지적 교류를 촉진하기 위해 노력해 왔습니다.

 

이번에는 총 20명의 아시아 전문가들이 지원하였으며, 선발위원회를 통해 지원자들이 제출한 연구제안서, 추천서, 업적 등을 면밀하게 검토하여 최종 5명의 펠로우를 선정하였습니다. 2009-10년 프로그램에 새롭게 선정된 EAI 펠로우는 다음과 같습니다.

 

Mary Alice Haddad, Assistant Professor, Wesleyan University
주제: “Environmental Politics and Citizen Participation in East Asia”

 

Jennifer Lind, Assistant Professor, Dartmouth College
주제: “Regime Type and the Politics of Memory”

 

Richard Samuels, Professor, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
주제: “Kidnapping Politics: The Abductees Issue in Japanese Politics and Diplomacy in East Asia”

 

Barbara Stallings, Professor, Brown University
주제: “A Tale of Two Crises: The Political Economy of East Asian Finance in the 1990s and 2000s”

 

Susan Whiting. Associate Professor, University of Washington
주제: “Competition among Legal, Political, and Social Norms in the Resolution of Rural Land Disputes”

 

선정된 펠로우들은 약 3주 간 동아시아의 5개 호스트 기관 중 두 곳 이상을 방문하여 세미나와 강연회에 참석하고 각자의 연구 주제를 발표하게 됩니다. 펠로우들이 방문하게 될 호스트 기관은, 서울의 동아시아연구원, 베이징 북경대학교, 상하이 푸단대학교, 동경 게이오대학교, 타이페이 대만국립대학교입니다.
