The worsening relations between Korea and Japan have an opposing impact in 2020 on the people of the two countries, according to a poll released Friday.

In a survey jointly conducted last month by the East Asia Institute and Genron, respective think tanks in Seoul and Tokyo, 12.3 percent of 1,006 Korean adults polled said they had favorable views of Japan.

The figure was a big drop from 31.7 percent in 2019, ending an upward trend in Koreans' favorable views of Japan that began in 2015.

Of the 1,006, 71.6 percent of them said they held a negative view of Japan, up from 49.9 percent last year.

In Japan, 25.9 percent of 1,000 adults answered they had a favorable view of Korea, up from 20 percent last year, and ending a downward trend that started in 2016

Some 46.3 percent had a negative view toward Korea, down from 49.9 percent last year.
