동아시아연구원은 9월 14일 “지정학과 민주주의"를 주제로 비공개 라운드테이블을 개최했다. 이번 회의에서는 국제질서와 민주주의의 미래, 민주주의 가치와 기능적 협력, 그리고 아시아 민주주의 국가들이 국제 민주주의를 지지하는 방법에 대한 내용을 다뤘다.
약 30명의 참가자들과 Sunnylands Initiative 관계자들이 참석한 본 회의는 전미민주주의기금(National Endowment for Democracy)과 협력하여 주최된 라운드테이블 시리즈 중 하나이다.

The Sunnylands Principles were introduced in a discussion co-hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the National Endowment for Democracy, and the Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands. The Principles are a vision for regional cooperation to advance democratic governance norms in the Indo-Pacific based on the broad and diverse national experiences each of the signatories represents.
