The EAI GlobalNet 21 Forum (Chair, Yul Sohn, professor of Yonsei University GSIS) was held on June 13th, 2017, with Vincent K. Brooks, Commander of U.S. Forces Korea, who gave a presentation entitled “The ROK-US Alliance : Cooperation on the North Korean Threat.” Chair Yul Sohn moderated a lively audience discussion with over forty participants that was led by Professor Chaesung Chun of Seoul National University and Professor Won Gon Park of Handong Global University. The main topics addressed at the forum were the joint response of the United States and South Korea to the North Korean nuclear threat, strengthening of the ROK-US Alliance, and the security issues surrounding THAAD deployment. Commander Brooks emphasized that the ROK-US alliance is crucial to mitigating the North Korean threat and must be supported by the international community as North Korea continues its attempts to develop nuclear weapons and missiles.
