Expert Seminar with Dr. Yuen Yuen Ang

EAI held an Expert Seminar as part of the EAI Fellows Program on June 8, 2017 with Professor Yuen Yuen Ang from the University of Michigan, US. Professor Ang presented on the topic of “The Problem of Defining Success in China’s Bureaucracy,” discussing Chinese bureaucracy and its effect on China’s economic development and performance. She argued that the adaptive power of China’s bureaucracy was a critical factor in helping China successfully escape from poverty. Panelists discussed the possibilities and limits of the adaptive power of the bureaucracy in terms of China’s economic development, and raised the issue of whether or not it is possible to apply the adaptive bureaucracy model to other developing countries.
