  • 2017-05-19
EAI held an Expert Seminar as part of the EAI Fellows Program on May 18, 2017 with Doctor Enze Han from SOAS, University of London, UK. As indicated in the title, “Weaker States under the Shadow of Great Powers: Foreign Policy Choices of Southeast Asian States,” Dr. Han gave an informative and lively presentation on the diplomacy of weaker states and policy choices under great power politics in international relations. He criticized traditional IR theory for limiting its focus to the behavior and logic of big powers, and worked to build a theory on diplomatic options and behaviors of small powers by analyzing the cases of Thailand and Myanmar. Panelists discussed the importance of understanding the foreign policies of weaker states in International Relations, and exchanged ideas for developing the argument.
