Expert Seminar with Prof. Alexander Bukh

EAI held an Expert Seminar as part of the EAI Fellows Program on October 17, 2016 with Professor Alexander Bukh from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Professor Kearn presented on territorial disputes in East Asia and civil society movements in each country including South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, considering that civil society groups are playing an increasingly important role in shaping both discourses and policies related to these disputes in their respective countries. He suggested the concept of ontological security approach for more nuanced understanding of the issue and social activism. In the seminar, participants discussed on the meaning of ontological security, social movements in South Korea regarding Dokdo, ROK-Japan relations in view of territorial dispute, etc. Topic
