Roundtable with H.E. Manisha Gunasekera, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Republic of Korea

H.E. Niroshani Manisha Dias Abeywickrema GUNASEKERA, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, visited East Asia Institute (EAI) on Monday, August 22, 2016. This roundtable was held on a request from the Sri Lankan Embassy to discuss research as well as educational opportunities for the EAI and a research institution in Sri Lanka that is affiliated with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Emphasizing the similarities between Sri Lanka, which has to pursue strategic diplomacy between India and China, and South Korea, which is placed between the U.S. and China, participants agreed that South Korea needs to play more active role in the South Asian region by encouraging research collaboration between Korean and South Asian research institutions and actively pursuing more concrete foreign policy vis-à-vis South Asian countries such as Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, etc.
