[2019 MDRN Survey Questionnaires]

[2019 MDRN Survey Databook]

The East Asia Institute, in partnership with the Myanmar Democracy Research Network(MDRN), hosted an international conference aimed at bettering governance practices in Myanmar. At the conference, local think-tanks participating in the “Strengthening Civil Society Organizations in Myanmar” project, presented the results of a survey which asked 500 Yangon citizens their opinions on public services within the city and offered evidence-based policy recommendations. Discussion panels featured not only local experts but also public policy experts from various countries across Asia such as South Korea, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.

Seven independent think tanks are participating in the “Strengthening Civil Society Organizations in Myanmar” program. This year, the partner organizations established MDRN and conducted their first joint survey. MDRN carried out the joint survey based on the seven missions (tax, garbage collection, waste management, public parks, stray dogs, roads and streetlights, markets) selected out of the 14 missions prioritized by the Yangon City Development Committee(YCDC). The partner organizations presented results and policy recommendations and listened to ideas introduced by outside experts. Local independent civil society activists and policy experts along with governance researchers and journalists expressed their interest in this event.

This program is supported by the National Endowment for Democracy(NED).
