The KF Korea Workshop is hosted by the Korea Foundation and organized by the East Asia Institute to promote and share understanding of Korean social, political, and economics issues among international residents in Korea.
During the third 2018 KF Korea Workshop, the third lecture will be delivered by Jocelyn Clark, professor of International Studies at the Paichai University. Professor Clark’s lecture will be on topic of “Understanding Gayageum and Play.”
Professor Clark gave us a brief history of the instruments, the Gayageum originated from China from Confucius tradition and spread to Korea and Japan; while the Janggu traveled all the way from India to Korea. Also Professor Clark and Jo Seyeong from Baekje Arts University joined us to play two classic traditional musical instruments from East Asia, the Gayageum and the Janggu. They then played a portion of Gayageum Sanjo, we were entranced by the beautiful melody moving back and forth from Major, upbeat, to Minor, downbeat. We are very grateful for the magnificent performance made by the professors earning them an extra-long applause from the audience.
