EAI Fellows Program Expert Seminar: Sheena Greitens
"How Are North Korean Migrants Adjusting to Life in South Korea?"
The EAI Fellows Program held its first expert seminar of 2016 during which Professor Sheena Greitens of the University of Missouri presented her research entitled "Post-Authoritarian Citizenship Among North Korean-Born Individuals in South Korea." Professor Greitens focused on the concept of "citizenship" in democratic and liberal economic states as she categorized North Korean migrants into three groups based on when they left North Korea. She argues that given their different backgrounds and experiences after they left, North Korean migrants behave differently while seeking to adapt to life in South Korea.
