On July 1, EAI held a roundtable discussion under the title of “Sources of Regime Support in China.” Professor Bruce Dickson of George Washington University argued that the Communist Party of China maintains its regime support by successfully utilizing its survival strategies consisting of legitimation, co-optation and repression. Based on the result of two public surveys conducted in 2010 and 2014, Professor Dickson emphasized that even though the general support for China’s regime is high, China is experiencing local legitimacy deficit.
